Hollywood!

After the beach, we drove Mullholland drive, took pictures of the Hollywood sign, and went to the Chinese theater to see the hand and footprints of the stars. Each one of us picked the square for our picture. Aleeya, our little Shirley Temple, has her hands on Shirley Temple's handprints. Sareya also picked Shirley Temple. (I think they liked the little handprints!)

Treygan picked Harry Potter, Kyra, picked Hermoine, and Melissa picked Harry Potter.

California Beach

On our trip to Disneyland, we did take a day to rest from the busy park. It was Melissa's first time seeing the ocean in person. The kids love the beach no matter what the temperature is.

.Treygan would not look at me for a picture. He was too busy building this "sand castle."

Happy New Year!

I cannot believe that an entire year went by and I only made one post! Last year was a crazy busy year for us. I hope this next year will be less busy so we can focus on the more important things in life, like blogging!! :-) One thing that will help is we now have church at 9am rather than 1pm. I am always amazed at how much more I can do in a day when I get up early. Sundays seem like a great time to get caught up on my family chronicle. So I thought I would start today!

What did we get for Christmas?

A TRIP TO DISNEYLAND!! We decided this year to scale back on Christmas and instead create memories with our children by going to Disneyland at what we hoped was a slow season for the park. Two days before the planned trip we let the children open one present early. It was a homemade coupon for a trip to Disneyland. The two youngest girls screamed with delight. Treygan and Kyra were excited but contained their enthusiasm better than the two little ones. We took my niece Melissa with us. Evan's sisters, Tricia and her family and Jessica and her little one, Gigi also joined us on this trip!
It turned out to be a great time to go to Disneyland. Saturday was still pretty busy so we spent it mostly at California Adventure. Monday it rained and drove away anyone who couldn't handle a little rain. Tricia had previously purchased $1 ponchos so we didn't get suckered into buying the $10 Disney Ponchos! By the afternoon the rain had cleared and we had the park to ourselves. We watched the beautiful show "World of Color" and had front row spots without standing in line or getting Fast Passes.Tuesday was busier at the park but still nothing like we have experienced in our other trips. The park was so beautifully decorated for Christmas. At the end of the night they made it snow. It was really fun. I love Disneyland and reallly enjoyed going at this time of year.

We exhausted the kids, of course. I love this picture of Treygan and his little cousin Preston. Treygan took good care of Preston throughout the vacation. He likes to think of him as the little brother he never had!

What happened to the Mickelsen Family Blog?

So I logged on to our family blog today. I found that I actually still have people checking my blog! I haven't blogged or checked other people's blogs very often for the last 6 months. So what happened? Well to be perfectly honest our family has been really busy.
Evan and I have opened a second location of our business in Denver. That has meant multiple trips to Denver both with and without the kids. It has increased the workload for both of us. The kids have been a great support. They even said that spending Spring Break in Denver was really fun! They are great sports.
The kids have been busy with Basketball, Dance, Soccer, Gymnastics, and now swimming. I hope to find time to post all the many pictures and stories from the last 6 months. Thank you for checking in on us and after the last major floral holiday(Memorial Day), I hope to return to my favorite projects including blogging. More posts to come!

October Fun!

Aleeya's preschool group went to the pumpkin patch. I was a little sad for a moment when I realized, this would be my last trip to the pumpkin patch as a preschool field trip. It is hard to see my baby grow up! She thinks she is so big now that she goes to school too.

We carved pumpkins the monday before Halloween, according to our family tradition. But this year we kept them on our back deck until Halloween night so the deer wouldn't eat them like last year. Everyone's favorite part... Cleaning out the pumpkins!

Do you see the drill Evan has in his hand. He takes pumpkin carving very serious!

Kyra had a Halloween party with her friends. We copied my Sister in law's idea of a fear factor type activity and had them eat gross jelly beans. baby food, and pull money out of a jar filled with crickets. The watched a movie and played games in the basement. It was fun until Kyra hurt her arm again by runnning into a wall while playing a game. We took her to the doctor on Monday and yes, she broke it again!

For Halloween, the kids dressed up like Alice in Wonderland characters.
Treygan - the Mad Hatter, Kyra - the Red Queen, Sareya - Alice, and Aleeya - the White Queen! It was fun but Treygan has already told me he is not doing a theme next year!
It started pouring down rain as we were getting the kids ready for trick or treating. We ate dinner and before we were finished eating we saw this out our window! It was a gorgeous double rainbow. (Evan did tease me when I went out to take pictures "Double rainbow, what does it mean?" For those You Tube fans out there, you know what we're talking about!)
Then Evan took the kids trick or treating Elk Ridge style... In a golf cart!!!

We later met up with cousins at Uncle Preston's House

My mom had a wonderful Halloween party at her house. We ate yummy food, played games, and enjoyed each other's company.

My dad and mom were Popeye and Olive Oil. Aren't they cute!
I dressed up as a witch and my sister was Dorothy! Here I am saying, "I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!"
October was a great month.
